Vipul Gupta is an engineer, documentarian, and community organizer. His work at Balena solves critical bottlenecks in testing operating systems at scale with open-source hardware-in-the-loop pipelines. When he’s not speaking at meetups, he likes to thoroughly read, meticulously document, and continuously automate. For almost a decade, he's played a major role in sustaining developer communities around Python, Linux, and GitHub technologies. He founded ALiAS, mentoring 3,000+ students to kickstart their open-source journey. With the Mixster initiative, he's helping startups build docs that scale. Vipul is the community lead for GitHub GitTogether meetups and growing the OpenHiL community online. Between conferences and code commits, he can be found documenting his backpacking adventures on his blog.

From pipelines to patterns: Observability in the wild

“You can’t improve what you can’t measure — but collecting more data isn’t the point. Making it meaningful is.” A blog post from our podcast session on how we are thinking about GitHub Observability at Balena, Vipul’s team manages hundreds of IoT devices, each with its own embedded Linux OS. That creates a unique challenge: every code change needs to be tested on real hardware using “hardware in the loop” pipelines.
